How does CNC milling work?
High-quality material processing is our core business. To do so, we apply various machining techniques to raw materials such as metal. One of these techniques is (CNC) milling. But what exactly is milling and when do we use this technique?
What is milling?
Milling and drilling is a machining technique widely used in the wood and metalworking industries. With milling, we take small pieces of material away from the raw product. In this process, the material is stationary, and the milling cutter makes a rotary movement. Unlike a drill, a router does not move downwards, but sideways. This way, we can make corners, edges, slots or holes in the material.
This is especially useful when making products that need to fit down to the millimetre.
What is CNC milling?
In the modern metalworking industry, we make extensive use of CNC milling. CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control. With a CNC milling machine, you can mill material very precisely. This is especially useful when making products that need to fit down to the millimetre. With a CNC milling machine, a robotic arm in an enclosed cabin moves the tool. The CNC miller stands outside the cabin and operates the control panel.
This is how we arrive at the desired end product step by step.
From work drawing to finished product
- We always start machining a product with a working drawing.
- The CNC milling machine then figures out what movements are needed to make the product.
- He also chooses the right tools.
- All operations he sets on the computer.
- In the process, he also makes a 3D simulation to see if the final product is correct.
- Then the machine goes to work.
- The CNC turner then monitors the entire production process.
- This is how we arrive at the desired end product step by step.
Milling at HWI
At HWI, we process materials every day using advanced milling machines. The products we make are used in the oil industry, for example. So the production process listens very closely.
For that reason, we at HWI ISO 9001-certified.
Wondering what products we can chip for you using a milling machine?
Then feel free to take contact with us. We are happy to think with you.
